Kohli, Rohit and Fakhar Retirement after Champions Trophy 2025?
The second biggest ICC event in ODI starting from February 19 and 9 teams are participating in this Champions Trophy 2025. Host Pakistan, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, England and Bangladesh are the teams divided into two groups, two teams will qualify for the semi-finals race from each group. Many experienced players always announce retirement after any big ICC tournament like Champions Trophy or World Cup, so there is high chance that some of these cricketers will play this Champions Trophy 2025 as their last ICC tournament.
We are talking about most experienced players who are facing age barrier or form issues currently such as;
1. Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar Zaman is one of the most experienced player of Pakistan and he is famous for his explosive innings and destroying batting style. Fakhar Zaman was the hero of Pakistan when they won the Champions Trophy 2017 in England. He became regular Pakistani opener after his century in the final match of Champions Trophy 2017 against India in the Oval. Fakhar Zaman is almost 35 years old and if he failed in this Champions Trophy 2025, his career might be over.
2. Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson has faced several injuries in last two years. He shows his good form against Pakistan in Tri Series in Pakistan. He is 34 years old and he said no to central contract of New Zealand. It is rumours arround the corner that Williamson can announce his retirement from ODI cricket after the Champions Trophy 2025.
3. Rohit Sharma
Indian captain Rohit Sharma is in the air due to his form and not having good relationship with coach Gautam Gambhir in dressing room. He scored century against India in ODI series. He has taken retirement from T20 cricket so highly chances are there to finish his white ball career this time after this tournament. He is almost arround 37 years old and BCCI also doesn’t have enough saying about his future stanza.
4. Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell knows how to turn any match into his side at any point. Maxwell is not in good form right now but his power can win matches for Australia single handedly. After that 201* against Afghanistan, Maxwell is yet to deliver a single fifty in his 10 matches and he has 30 runs as his high score. If Australia doesn’t get success in the Champions Trophy 2025
5. Joe Root
Joe Root is the part of Fab 4 and he is back in ODI format after his successful career in Test cricket. He was not in good form against India in recent series, he only played 3 ODIs after ODI World Cup 2023. If he doesn’t perform in Champions Trophy so it might be a stop on his ODI career.
6. Mohammed Nabi
Mohammed Nabi is 40 years old and he is the oldest player in Champions Trophy 2025. It is his last ICC tournament. He served Afghanistan cricket since its emergence. He has played 170 ODIs in his career. Let’s see what is the destination of Afghanistan in this Champions Trophy tournament
7. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is out of the T20 format from Indian squad after winning the title in T20 and cricket experts are saying that this will be the last ICC tournament of all time great player Virat Kohli. He has many eyes due to his form and if India win the tournament, he can announce his retirement from ODIs also. Let’s see either Virat Kohli will retire after this tournament or will continue to play in ODIs.

8. Ravindra Jadeja
India has a lot of spin options in squad such as Kuldeep Yadav, Axer Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi etc and having a lot of spin talent brings pressure on Ravindra Jadeja to perform consistently. Ravindra Jadeja is retired from T20s after winning the T20 Cup in 2024. It has higher chances that Jadeja will also announce his retirement after Champions Trophy 2025.
9. Mushfikur Rahim
Bangladeshi star wicketkeeper batsman Mushfikur Rahim has turned 37 now. He has experience of 272 ODI matches and scored 7793 runs. We have seen age factor on his game play many times so cricket pandits are guessing that Rahim will get retirement after this tournament.
10. Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid was the only player of England who seems to give a competition against India in recent series and his class leg break will definitely going to help England on Pakistani soil. He is 36 years old and English team is looking out his options for future. Adil Rashid can announce retirement due to his age.
11. Mahmudullah
Mahmudullah is also a key player for Bangladesh especially in any ICC events. He has played 238 ODIs in his career and has registered 5685 runs. He has the record of scoring most centuries in an ICC tournament from Bangladesh side. He is definitely on the verge of retirement as he is 39 years old now.
